Sell Your Boat

7 Brokers, 2 Yards and 78 Years of Experience Working for You

If you’re ready to sell your boat, McMichael can help. We are one of the few brokerages in the country with 7 full-time, on-site professional yacht brokers and an experienced administration staff working to get your boat sold. Each of our brokers has a personal database of hundreds of boaters and will work hard to find you a buyer. Our sales offices in Mamaroneck, NY and Newport, RI cover the most densely populated boating communities in the country. Listing with McMichael means that your boat will be offered on a co-brokerage basis to other firms across the country at no additional cost to you.

Our brokerage support staff handles all the paperwork, from the initial listing to the bills of sale, title abstracts and other due diligence, leaving your broker free to focus on finding a buyer. Our Sales Coordinator has 25+ years of experience and has dealt with nearly every obstacle that can come up in transferring ownership of a vessel.

We have listings from New Jersey to Rhode Island and routinely close deals with buyers from around the world. In addition to print advertising and direct one-on-one marketing to our existing clients, McMichael has a large presence in the online boat market.

Free Summer Storage Program

If you are selling your boat, the McMichael Brokerage Display will maximize your exposure and minimize your carrying costs. We offer a Summer Sales Plan and  a Winter Storage Rebate (see below) if your boat sells through McMichael.

As an industry leader with ample inventory on-site, we are a first stop for many buyers in the Northeast. Buyers often don’t know what boat will best fit their needs and they need to be shown several boats they have not considered. Because your boat is on display and easily shown, it may well be the best boat for the buyer.

The office is staffed by our full-time CPYB brokers working as a team to make sure your boat can be shown at the buyer’s convenience.

Our sales administration team has years of experience – an important fact that insures your interests as a seller are protected. All McMichael Central Listings are aggressively marketed on the internet at Yachtworld, Boats.com, Marine Source, and Facebook.com, as well as magazine and email promotions. All listings are available for co-brokerage, and other brokerage firms know that a McMichael listing means a quality boat and a smooth transaction. Our brokers are some of the most respected in the industry.

The deposit covers the cost of hauling, power washing, blocking and, if sold, launching the boat prior to October 1. McMichael mechanics will winterize all engines in the water before hauling to insure they run without obvious problems. Normal winterization charges apply and are due within 30 days of completion.

Gross Commission $ 8,000 – $11,999: 40%

The balance of winter storage is due at the closing or on May 1, whichever comes first. All other invoices are due 30 days after hauling (decommissioning, covering, etc.). The winter storage season is considered 8 months: starting October 1 – ending May 31.

Summer storage starts June 1 and if you have paid winter storage and any other open bills, it will be at NO CHARGE and marketing will continue through the summer. If winter storage and open bills have not been paid, summer storage will be invoiced at 40% of the winter rate.

Price, cleanliness and condition effect the marketability and are your responsibility. We reserve the right to ask that you remove your boat from our yard after the storage season if the boat is not maintained and priced appropriately.
