The design team at Pearson Marine Group has brought the elegance, ease of sailing and performance of the 20-38′ Alerion Express range to a new, forty-one foot two cabin coastal cruiser.
The Alerion 41 will be immediately recognized as an Alerion, with a large, uncluttered cockpit for easy singlehanding, elegant bow and stern profiles and elliptical opening portlights. The interior will provide the same yacht-quality finish, but with ample accomodations for the cruising family, including aft cabin and forward master stateroom, a generous galley and nav station, and proper storage thoughout.
For those that appreciate classic aesthetics, uncompromising performance and cruising luxury, the Alerion 41 will truly stand out.
The profile shows the natural development from the 33 and 38 with an elegant sheer, low coachroof, and elliptical port lights (to be opening in this model). The bow and stern profiles use the same geometry and family of curves that are derived from the very DNA of Alerion-Express and Alerion Sport.
The cockpit is the heart and sole of the 41 maintaining the format of her smaller sisters with comfortable settees port and starboard and command center aft. However, the A41 has room for a pedestal table and winch islands that accommodate powerful reversible self tailing electric winches. The Alerion 41 sets a new low in the force level required to sail a boat of this size.
Aft, the helmsperson can feel every nuance of the pulse of this thoroughbred through the pedestal mounted steering wheel. Control of all the sailing functions are close at hand; push button reversible winch controls, traveler adjustments, auto pilot or auxiliary, mainsheet and furler. The A41 takes Alerion Sailing to the next logical exciting plateau.
The uncluttered deck layout afforded by under deck control line leads has allowed the design team to add such innovative features as a below decks stowing anchor chute and anchor windlass which allows an uninterrupted sweep of the sheer while underway.
The water access system (see gallery) enables the transom to be converted to a marvelous boarding area either from swimming or from a dinghy. The convertibility aspect of the water access feature, allows the clean lines of the hull to be unspoiled while underway or at anchor. Below decks the Alerion 41’s interior is second to none. The hand-finished bulkheads and doors are masterpieces of modern yacht construction with more than an acknowledging nod to the days of Vanderbilt and Sopwith. The 41 interior can be bespoke; finished in the owner’s choice of American Cherry, exotic Teak or a combination of wood furniture and white bulkheads.
The main cabin features 6’6″ standing headroom and wonderfully comfortable settees forward with both able to convert into comfortable single berths. The spacious lockers outboard of the settees are accessed via beautifully crafted, solid wood, panel doors.
In these days of electronic navigation a formal chart table has been replaced by a drop down desk large enough for a lap top computer. Outboard of the desk is the back-lit main electrical panel mounted in a locker face. There is plenty of space forward of the panel to add the additional electronics that are desired. The navigation desk easily drops down to make a full length settee or berth.
The galley provides all the necessities for onboard meal preparation. Hot and cold pressure water, double stainless steel sink, 2 vacuum panel insulated refrigerated ice boxes and LPG stove with an oven as well as a microwave. As with everything in life this arrangement may not suit all owners and their crews. Alerion is always prepared to work with individual clients to customize the 41 to suit their needs.
Aft is the entry door to a second sleeping cabin that provides privacy for a second couple not always found on other yachts of this class. This light airy cabin can be a haven for those wanting to grab a quick nap while the fun continues either on deck or below. A hanging locker provides ample storage while overhead and cockpit hatches provide plenty of fresh sea breeze.
The head compartment features a sizeable shower area and electric head. Light and ventilation are provided by an overhead Lewmar hatch and a stainless steel port in the house side. Light and ventilation in general is provided by opening ports and skylights plus the companionway.
Completing the interior ensemble is the spacious forward cabin, accessed via a paneled door in the main bulkhead. With plenty of storage in a hanging locker and bureau an extended stay on the Alerion 41 is easy. The forward cabin has plenty of ventilation and equal amount of privacy. The oversized v-berth with filler piece makes for a comfortable place to sleep or nap.
By now you will understand why the Alerion 41 will be such an exceptional yacht, and such an exceptional experience.
The Alerion Sport 33 is the perfect yacht for those who do not want to wait for crew (or a narrow range of conditions) to savor a weekend, a day or even an hour out sailing. As with her larger and smaller sisters, the easy set-up and put-away of this yacht allows you to spend more time sailing and reminds you of the way sailing should be.
The Sport 33 adds another flavor of exhilaration while maintaining the other capabilities that Alerion Express is known for. The self tacking jib allows for easy tacking; while the optional asymmetrical spinnaker provides easy yet powerful off wind performance.
Other head sails are available as options; a 105% blade jib and a 150% genoa are among these offerings. The ability to convert the boat easily from daysailer to club racer is what makes this boat so unique. The innovative running rigging on the boat allows for easy switching between headsails. Ten feet of unobstructed cockpit includes seats long enough for an afternoon nap or for a bunch of friends. Furthermore, the cockpit has removable sections to convert the cockpit space from daysailing to racing mode. Seating space is altered so that the helmsman can have more space to move around the cockpit and sit comfortably on the cockpit coaming. But creature comforts are certainly not forgotten below where woodwork, detail and finish are proof that this is an Alerion Express at its core. Sleeping accommodations for four, ample storage and an enclosed head make for perfect daysailing and weekend trips.
McMichael Yacht Brokers sold hull #1 of the Sport 33, and we were highly involved in the development of this exciting addition to the Alerion family. Call us today for more information and a closer look.
McMichael Yacht Brokers began selling the Alerion Express 28 in 1993, based on our long relationship with builder Pearson Composites (then TPI). Since then we have sold dozens of this definitive 28-foot design, and we are now proud to be the top Alerion Express dealer worldwide. Quite simply, we have more experience selling and servicing Alerion’s than anyone in the country.
The Alerion is a highly customized yacht, and the experience of buying one is far more involved than filling out a simple order form. Our brokers work with you to define exactly how you want to sail, and our years of experience with other discriminating clients help us create the perfect Alerion for YOU. McMichael has created several custom options on Alerion Express models that later became factory options, and we worked closely with the team at Alerion throughout the development of the Alerion Sport 33 after taking the order for hull #1. We have sold several of the most customized Alerion Express 38′s ever made.
The introduction of the Alerion Express 33 and the reconfigured Alerion Express 38 in 2006 marked the resurgence of daysailing in the boating community. The idea that you could have a boat that is both elegant and easily sailed, whether singlehanding or with non-sailing friends, has brought countless people back to the sport. Alerion Express achieves this with spacious cockpits, Herreshoff-inspired lines, and innovative use of modern technology. With all lines running below deck to electric winches at the wheel, you can sail an Alerion the way you want to, no matter who is onboard.
The Alerion Express experience is all about pure sailing pleasure – the thrill of a fast, responsive yacht that looks terrific, handles like a dream and doesn’t require a large or experienced crew. Alerion Sailing means sailing on your terms, with no compromises.
